Statement by the Executive Secretariat of ALBA-TCP on the interfering statments of Luis Almagro urging a military intervention in Venezuela

The Executive Secretariat of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) expresses its indignation and rejects the statements made by the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, in which he urges a military intervention in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

These statements are a clear evidence of the destabilizing and interventionist plans against the democracy and sovereignty of the progressive governments of the region that have been implemented by Secretary General Almagro. With these statements, Almagro seeks to deepen and sharpen the attacks that some governments of the region have been developing against Venezuela. The Secretary General has overstepped his official duties and contradicted the basic principles of International Law and the OAS Charter itself.

The incitement to military intervention by the OAS Secretary General is a threat to peace in the region and must be rejected by the international community, especially by Latin America and the Caribbean countries. A military intervention against Venezuelan democracy and sovereignty would have unpredictable consequences for our countries and would generate an immediate reaction of our peoples for the defense of Our America.
